Pursuit
A chase type of event which can either be a single long run (perhaps the race course), a series of shorter runs (say about half a mile) or a series of shorter runs up a hill with a handicap start. This is often a team event to allow recovery time with handicaps based on the slower runner in the team, first past the post is the winner.
Alternatively, this is organised as a "round robin" event with everyone racing everyone else or used with some way of modifying the handicap as the event progresses.
What's the Point
The short distance allows for multiple effort, with recovery in between. Adding hills is an extra challenge as running up hills is difficult and very good training.
